“... Dear Beloved, it’s a conspiracy of spirit: —it can’t be done alone ...”

—from The Black Outside by Joy Priest

A poem based on a picture or work of art is called an ekphrasis.

This exhibit coinciding with the Exeter LitFest features

14 New England poets writing in response to 14 local artists’ paintings, prints, sculpture, drawings, industrial quilt squares, and collages.

In all of the works, we hope you’ll notice the conversation between the artists’ visual, tactile, olfactory, auditory images and the poets’ inner responses.

During the exhibit youth are invited to come in and write poems of their own based on the Art. We will have a drawing for one youth to read their poem with us at the reading & reception.

Exhibit opens: Wednesday, March 19th

Reading & closing reception: Sunday, April 6, 2-5 PM

Location: Art Up Front Street Studios & Gallery, 120 Front Street, Exeter, NH

Exhibit hours: Wed- Sat, Mar 19 thru Apr 6, 10 AM – 4PM

The exhibit is organized by Jessica Purdy, S. Stephanie (poets) and Art Up Front Street Studios & Gallery.
